Billion kronor investment in GoCo Health Innovation City

Through the jointly-owned company, Trenum, Balder and the Third Swedish National Pension Fund, will develop approx. 450 rental apartments and housing for researchers in the middle of the district. The plan is to start construction of approx. 150 apartments per year. Balder also owns one third of Next Step Group. Construction is now starting of the area’s signature building GoCo House – a building for collaboration with total floor space of 21,000 m².

“I believe that GoCo Health Innovation City will create significant value for both the region and Sweden. The location beside AstraZeneca is fantastic and a cluster like this is needed to develop Swedish health innovation and to attract competencies and companies here. The apartments we are building mean that guest researchers, employees and others that GoCo attracts, can live in the heart of the area. This is a key component, which will make the area lively,” says Erik Selin, CEO of Balder.

GoCo House manifests the concept of GoCo Health Innovation City – partly through its spectacular architecture, but above all by being a natural place for collaboration. These characteristics shall pervade the entire district. The concept is to design the residential properties in a way that facilitates space for meetings and collaboration. The residential area, among other things, will offer meeting places in the form of roof terraces, inviting courtyards and pleasant common areas/public spaces. The residential area shall also encourage residents and visitors to have an active lifestyle.

Now some of Sweden’s most prominent business executives and research representatives are also coming out and supporting GoCo Health Innovation City. Marcus Wallenberg, Leif Johansson and Carl Bennet are participating in an upcoming film, and who all based on their different business activities are prepared to make major investments in order to transform GoCo Health Innovation City into a leading centre for health, biomedicine and health technology.

Other participants in the film include the Swedish Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation Ibrahim Baylan, AstraZeneca’s CEO Pascal Soriot and Global Head of R&D Mene Pangalos, the researcher and entrepreneur Mathias Uhlén, the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Hospital Director Ann-Marie Wennberg, Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the Vice Chancellor at Gothenburg University Eva Wiberg.
